Reading Away

Henry has finally discovered that reading books (ie. sitting still) can be fun. He loves his soft books that have reading activities like lifting flaps or things he can grab onto. He even remembers what to do on each page from one reading to the next. Before bed we read through his stack of books and then put each one on the floor. As soon as a book is done he looks over to the stack for another, and when I have read the last one he attempts to get up since there are none left. He is becoming one smart cookie!

I may be a bit biased here, being a education/language arts major, but what you are doing is the absolute most important thing in aiding in Henry's future success in school.

People always comment on how "smart" and "advanced" my kids are in regards to their vocabulary etc. But it has EVERYTHING to do with reading to them daily!

Keep up the good work!

A cool book to pick up for yourself is called THE READ ALOUD HANDBOOK. It goes through the research of the benefits of reading to your kids early . . . and it lists hundreds of book recommendations for all the different ages!

I know . . . I'm a huge nerd!
